Yellow Jambhala
Thangka for Prosperity & Merit
Sacred art for prosperity, good fortune and spiritual growth.
Style: Contemporary Rebong( Rebkong), Menri School
Interpretation
The Treasure-Spitting Mongoose (in left hand)
The mongoose holding a precious Cintamani jewel is the central symbol of Yellow Jambhala. It represents wealth generated through generosity — true wealth is not hoarded but flows endlessly to benefit all beings, serving as an inexhaustible source of merit and prosperity.
Wish-Fulfilling Jewel (in right hand)
Symbolizes wish-fulfillment. Yellow Jambhala grants virtuous aspirations, including not only material wealth but also spiritual wealth: freedom from afflictions and the attainment of wisdom.
White Conch (under his right foot)
In Buddhism, the conch represents treasures from the ocean. It signifies that Jambhala taps into the very source of abundance to bring ample resources to all beings. It also symbolizes conquering greed, removing obstacles, overcoming difficulties on the path to prosperity, and reminds us that wealth must be gained and used ethically.
Lotus Seat & Dominant Blue Tone
The lotus represents purity, meaning wealth must be acquired with integrity. The blue lotus corresponds to the water element, signifying a steady, flowing stream of wealth, as well as Jambhala’s compassion and pure nature.
Jeweled Ornaments & Celestial Robes
They embody the dignity and compassion of a bodhisattva. Jambhala’s wealth is not for attachment, but for supporting and benefiting all beings. It also teaches that true wealth comes from accumulated virtuous deeds, not exploitation, freeing beings from both material and spiritual poverty.
Fiery Aureole (outer red rim & inner flame patterns)
Known as wisdom fire in Thangka art, it symbolizes the burning away of karmic obstacles of poverty. It also represents Jambhala’s powerful blessings that purify hindrances and bring prosperity and merit.
